Folks,
I notice the opensuse 11.0 release of VLC no longer plays mkv files. Are
there any codecs that need to be installed now or does one need to install
another player?
Thanks,
Vahe Avedissian

Install matroska codec from yast, after that Kaffeine worked for me.

Barev Sergey,

I checked that I had libmatroska installed and it was. VLC still will *not* play .mkv videos. I installed VLC on VB running XP and sure enough it played mkv files.

Any idea what else to check for? Is the opensuse 11.0 repository deliberately lobotomized?

Thanks,

Vahe

There are 2 versions of VLC, from VideoLan repository, and from
packman. The one from VideoLan did not play matroska here as well, but
the other one, from packman was OK.

Please, report a bug with VideoLan for their build.

Also, you can always use mplayer to play almost everything :)

Hi Sunny,

I un-installed the VLC repository VLC and installed from packman and indeed it
now plays mkv files! Thanks for the tip!

Now, if I could only find where to file a bug with VideoLan...

How to file a bug:
<http://wiki.videolan.org/Report_bugs>

Btw, you do not need to uninstall the repository, just change the
priority, so packman's packages are preffered.

Cheers
