Hi,

I am not able to download VLC media player using *YaST*. I got a good link -

I went YaST -> Software -> Software Management ( double clicked). But it is
not opening for me. I am using openSUSE 13.1.

The one click install will offer you the option of setting up the VLC
repository as well as simply installing VLC.

But if you've installed the VLC with the one-click install then the
issue of the repository in order to install VLC become a non issue :-)

What do you mean by that?
Where did you click on it?

If I want to start the software manager and nothing else I don't visit a
web page.
I click on the start menu, (bottom left of bar), choose 'computer', then
'install/remove software'.

I use KDE; I think its similar in the other desktop; I've use LXDE but
not gnome.

Yes, when I am clicking on this, I think a window should come, where we can
search our required s/w. But that window came for me only once 3 days back,
though which I installed GVim. But after that lot's of click went on it, that
window never came.. so I am depressed... :-)

So, it seems you don't have "yast2-metapackage-handler" installed. That
has the one-click install handler code.

Please install that with (at the root command prompt)

zypper install "yast2-metapackage-handler"

The go back to that web page and click on the "one click install" button.

Well if its not in the RPM database it is very likely not installed
Not by THAT name :-)

There are zypper equivalents such as 'search' and 'info' as well.
RTFM.

Arup there is a typo on the package name you wrote above. Notice metapackage
vs. meta-package

Here it is:

rpm -qa yast2-metapackage-handler
yast2-metapackage-handler-3.0.0-2.1.4.noarch

Point: zypper response, "Nothing to do", does not verify a package is
installed.

You still must install "yast2-meta-package-handler" to accomplish your
intent. You probably do not have a repo active that contains the yast
package. Check http://software.opensuse.org/search for the correct repo.

It seems, this package is installed already. Still not working. :(
And what does 'still not working' mean now.

What isn't working?
Are you saying that clicking on a button labelled "one click install"
doesn't work?
Describe 'not work' in more detail please.
What button? Where?
What is the URL of the button, THE BUTTON! Not the page the button is
on. What about other one-click install buttons?

YaST -> Software -> Software Management not working
Hey! Now I tried YaST -> Software -> Software Management ( clicked on it)

It is now working. Once I clicked, the search window opened and something got
downloaded. It is now working, means the search window is coming from where we
need to search the repository. This search window previously was not coming.

And using firefox. It will not work with Chrome, for instance.

But using the one click to install vlc from videolan and possibly
something else from packman is a recipe for disaster.

packages from videolan and packman are not necessarily compatible. It
is/was advised to use one or the other, not both; ie: use videolan for
codecs and packman for the rest.
