sawfish - another great little desktop! Absolute killer set of themes/decorations.

Listmates,

Just a quick note not to pass up sawfish if you are looking at lightweight
desktops. I loaded it to day expecting to just "check it out" and move on --
well, it's still on my desktop :p

It is probably closer to fluxbox than any of the other boxtops. What really
stands out is the sheer volume of good window decoration themes available. It
probably has as many a gnome. Sourceforge has some 500+ themes available.
Looking at the project, it seems to be very active with an active git repository
and great wiki to get you going:

You will want to download the package and install from source as the opensuse
packages in buildservice are woefully old. The downloads are available from the
page above. I been running the version from buildservice. The only issue is
changing fonts for the desktop themes. They fail with an unrecognized font type
error. This has been fixed for months according to the changelog. I'll build
from src tonight and confirm.

The themes really stick out. From the mild/clean themes to the wild/cool
themes. It will have something to make you smile. Here are a few examples I ran
across during my first look:

(all are about 60k)

For a look at all 500+ at sourceforge:

Have fun :-)

Hi David and listmates!

- this is awesome! I'm constantly on the lookout for a replacement for
KDE4 (not for myself but for my LTSP users...), a lightweight
alternative that'll let me define a SIMPLER MENU than the cluttered
'covers everything on the planet' one that comes standard with KDE4.

- I quote: "You will want to download the package and install from
source"....a short 5 liner instructions would be most welcome :-)

Q: I gather one may relatively easy (custom) define the menu structure?

I'll post the 5-liner shortly. My plans of compiling and working through the
menus were derailed last night by kiddos that didn't want to get to be on
time... Perhaps tonight :p

Glad I'm not the only one who has that problem occasionally ;-).
