Anything strange going on in center of germany?

I noticed my rsync's against ftp5.gwdg.de are failing, but that happened
before. However, scheduled maintenance or problems are normally
mentioned on the UNI's main page, which is also unreachable.
Even the initial page of the city-council is down, just like the Max
Planck Institute for Experimental Medicine.

Is there a black-out in that region?

Hans,

the last notice in the RSS feed
<http://www.gwdg.de/index.php?id=1640&type=100> (13:07 CEST) said that
there are massive network problems in the GWDG network. I do not know
what they are hosting, maybe the are even hosting the city council. The
only say that "many websites" are concerned.

Thanks Werner,
It looks like many people will be working this weekend over there.
Today at 13:01 CEST they announced that everything should work again.

Regards,
Werner

The Uni's <http://www.uni-goettingen.de/> or GWDG's
<http://www.gwdg.de/> main page or that of the Max Planck
Gesellschaft's <http://www.mpg.de/>?

Fine now from here (22:55 CEST/20:55 UTC).

Anyway, whichever main page you meant, the GWDG's News page
<http://www.gwdg.de/index.php?id=aktuell&no_cache=1&L=1>
links to this:
http://www.gwdg.de/index.php?id=90&no_cache=1&L=1&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=3000&tx_ttnews[backPid]=3

In the german version of that they state they "feverishly work on the
issue".

The site is already up again, also both ftp.gwdg.de and ftp5.gwdg.de
via both ftp and http. Don't know about it via rsync.

Generally, the DFN (<http://dfn.de>, there doesn't seem to be an
english version[0]) which is the main connection (100GBit?) for the
GWDG AFAIK, is very reliable. I've yet to notice _any_ outage in their
net since I know of the DFN (since about 1998 or so, both for my
Uni-login as well as a SuSE-mirror ;)

[0] guessing from your name and and domain there's a good chance you
can at least guess-read german, so I hope that's not a big problem ;)
